Looking ahead to 2025

The coming year 2025 will be characterized by significant changes in the transport industry. Rising costs and structural adjustments, particularly in rail transport, will have an impact on pricing. We would like to give you a transparent overview of the most important developments and explain our measure to provide you with the best possible support in these challenging times.

A key factor for price development will be the increase in track access charges in Germany, which will rise by 16,2 % in freight transport. This increase is based on the German government’s decision to increasingly switch rail infrastructure financing to equity increases instead of construction cost subsidies. In 2025 alone, 5.9 billion Euros will be made available for this purpose. The disadvantage: due to legal requirements regarding the equity ratio and the associated prescribed high return on equity, track fees must rise accordingly.

In addition to track charges, rising personnel costs also have a significant impact on our industry. The strong inflation of recent years and the general cost increases are making themselves felt both in the personnel sector and in the procurement of wagons and locomotives.

The infrastructural challenges in the German rail network will also be with us in 2025 and remain a key issue. Time-consuming and labor-intensive rerouting traffic with limited train lengths and tonnages will have to be mastered again in the coming year.

Even in times of climate change and increasing extreme weather events, as we have recently experienced with floods, a stable and reliable partner in logistics is more important than ever. At the same time,the uncertainties in the energy sector remain. Despite the recurring challenges, we always strive to find flexible and alternative solutions so that your logistics processes can be kept as efficient as possible.
