Update Information on train path price subsidies in Germany 2024

With reference to our newsletter dated 09.01.2024 (see below), we would like to inform you that the federal budget 2024 was adopted at the beginning of February 2024. The subsidies for the train path price subsidy (TraföG) have not been adjusted further and have been decided with a reduction of over 50% (compared to 2023).

As a result of this reduction in subsidies, we feel compelled to price them with an infrastructure surcharge of EUR 9,– per TEU.

We will charge this surcharge from the dispatch date of 19.02.2024, in the transports from Austrian terminals to German seaports v.v., containers already booked are also affected by this measure.

As you have probably already seen from the media, the so-called train path price subsidy (TraFöG) for the use of the rail infrastructure has been cut by the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Germany by more than 50%. The reason for this was the underfunding of the 2024 federal budget with the resulting budget freeze, which has now been lifted.

Since infrastructure funding is an integral part of our rate calculation for 2024.

According to current information, the German government is expected to make a decision on the further amount of funding at the beginning of February. In the event that the Federal Government leaves the subsidy at the current reduced level or reduces it further, we will inform you about this in a timely manner, in the sense of corporate due diligence, we are forced to take appropriate measure and pass on the costs to the market.

In order to guarantee you planning and cost security, we will leave the subsidy rate unchanged in our calculations until 15.02.2024.
